F10 BMW 5 Series has sold over two million units worldwide. Why? It looks better than the previous one by a mile

BMW has just informed us that, the current BMW 5 Series (the F10) sets new benchmarks in the premium business segment with over two million of them sold throughout the world. Compared with the previous generation, sales of the current BMW 5 Series have even risen by more than 42 percent.

Since its market launch in 2010, the sixth generation BMW 5 Series has been named the best in class in terms of design, driving dynamics and efficiency by a large number of publications and also won a number of design awards. As a result, it has become the most successful BMW 5 Series generation to date in terms of sales, driving pleasure and even styling.

I have to agree with the styling aspect as the F10 5 Series is a proper BMW sedan with its low slung body coupled with slim pillars for the passenger cabin. It is so much better than the E60 which it replaced. That car was so unlike a BMW sports sedan. It looked bulky and it looked complicated. It did not look slender and atheletic. I looked fat. It was also designed by Chris Bangle so it had something called the Bangle Butt for a boot. It . I actually remembered signing one of those online petitions requesting for his removal as chief designer for BMW. The current design team led by Adrian Van Hooydonk may design slightly bland looking cars, but I still like them better than the E60.

I personally think the styling of the current F10 5 Series made it sell in the numbers that was announced by BMW. People do not want something opinion dividing.

With the exception of the 5 Series Gran Turismo (above). That....is styled for uncles, aunties, grandpa and grandma. Or for frumpy people. Look at it! It is tall and bulbous. Not a traditional low slung sports sedan that a 5 Series should be. Oh well, the sedan and the station wagon looks good. So two out of three isn't bad.
