BMW Group Malaysia today introduced the All-New BMW 740Le xDrive. This is the newest BMW 7 Series variant in the country. It will basically replace all previous selling BMW 7 series variants sold here in Malaysia as it takes full advantage of the EEV tax breaks as well as adding new features and equipment too.
Retail Price After Government Approved Hybrid Incentive for BMW's flagship in Malaysia is a reasonable RM 598,800.00. If you are a captain of the industry type of person that is. It also adds all-wheel drive to the 7 series aside from the hybrid technology.
The 740Le xDrive is powered by a 2.0 litre four-cylinder in-line engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo EfficientDynamics engine. This petrol 4 cylinder engine may seem small for such a large car, but on its own, it makes 258 hp with a peak torque of 400 Nm. The electric motor also attached to the drivetrain makes 113 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. In total, the new 7 series makes 326 hp and has a combined peak torque of 500 Nm. The powertrains are paired with an equally optimised eight-speed Steptronic transmission which sends the power to all of its wheels. This is one planted luxury sedan.
It also comes in about a year and a few months from its initial launch in January 2016 and now being locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah, it is part of BMW Group Malaysia to take advantage of the hybrid tax incentives. It would have cost customers an extra RM250,000 if not for this.
This is a sporty large luxury sedan. The kind that basically is suited for the owner and not his chauffeur. Even in this 'L' or long wheelbase form. Very BMW actually.

BMW 740Le xDrive – the newest BMW 7 Series variant in the country.
The All-New BMW 7 Series Hybrid with eDrive Technology now offers industry leading

Unveiling the All-New BMW 740Le xDrive, Mr. Han Sang Yun, Managing Director and

The All-New BMW 740Le xDrive bridges the best innovations in combustion engines and
electric drive systems to create an electrifying performance with significantly reduced
emissions and similarly lowered fuel consumption. Powering the All-New BMW 740Le
xDrive is the latest 2.0 litre four-cylinder in-line engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo
expertise derived from the EfficientDynamics engine family of the BMW Group. The most
potent of its breed ever to be fitted into a series-produced BMW model, the combustion
engine develops a maximum output of 258 hp with a peak torque of 400 Nm.
Paired with an equally optimised eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the All-New BMW
740Le xDrive charts a top speed of 250 km/h. The new engine also embodies a suite of
technology comprising a TwinScroll turbocharger integrated into the cast-steel exhaust
manifold, High Precision Injection with a peak pressure of 200 bar, double-VANOS for
greater torque and elastic power, and the latest version of the highly advanced
VALVETRONIC technology.
Meanwhile, the eDrive expertise derived from the know-how of BMW i stands on the
principle of a permanently exciting synchronous motor, enabling the car to accomplish a
phenomenally notable maximum output of 113 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm in pure
electric driving mode. The electric driving range of the All-New BMW 740Le xDrive based
on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) cycle is 41KM.
The consequent boost effect to the combustion engine bestows the driver with thrillingly
reflexive responses. Fully integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic transmission system,
the electric motor also assumes the role of a generator which runs on either the efficient
lifting of the engine’s load points or by recuperating braking energy – depending on the
hybrid mode selected. Energy generated is then channelled to the high-voltage battery.
Together, the combustion engine and the electric drive system engenders a summative
output of 326 hp and a combined peak torque of 500 Nm. The result is instantaneity to
every movement of the accelerator and an unimpeded delivery of dynamic power,
enabling the plug-in hybrid sedan to accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.
The eDrive button located on the centre console allows the driver to dictate the
configuration of the plug-in hybrid drive system. In the AUTO eDrive mode, the
combustion engine and electric motor synchronises intelligently to maximise the use of
locally emission-free mobility – only activating the combustion engine at the speed of
around 80 km/h or under heavy throttle conditions. Pure-electric driving is engaged in the
MAX eDrive mode where the car is powered exclusively by the electric motor.
Nevertheless, the combustion engine can be employed by pushing the accelerator into
kickdown. Finally, Battery Control allows the driver to manually engage the use of the
high-voltage battery by setting the charge value to be availed for pure-electric driving later
in the journey.
Customised Driving Experience Control with ADAPTIVE mode and BMW xDrive for
the first time in a sedan.
The All-New BMW 740Le xDrive takes the Driving Experience Control – engageable via a
switch on the centre console – to the next level with the introduction of the ADAPTIVE
mode which mobilises the car’s responses to adapt to the driver’s style and route profile.
Meanwhile, the modes ECO PRO, COMFORT, and SPORT are further refined in
definition to communicate their respective composition of dynamics, comfort and
efficiency through which they influence the driving experience.
Taking Sheer Driving Pleasure a notch higher is the industry leading BMW xDrive system
which is now made available for the first time in a BMW sedan in Malaysia. The intelligent
all-wheel drive system is the fastest reacting and most flexible all-wheel drive system in
its segment. xDrive operates proactively and enables fully variable drive power to be
distributed when needed between the front and rear axles when needed, even delivering
up to almost 100 percent of power to every wheel. This makes for maximum traction and
optimum push and extremely precise driving dynamics for the All-New BMW 7 Series.

Visionary design and creative functionality manifest in the interior of the All-New BMW
740Le xDrive. Prospective owners can look forward the same segment leading innovation
that is offered by the World Luxury Car of the Year 2016 including BMW Touch Display
for the on-board monitors and BMW Gesture Control.
Atmosphere inside is also enriched with the Ambient Light Design which includes the
Welcome Light Carpet for the area in front of the front doors, welcoming the driver and
passengers to the car as well as the Ambient highlight inside car, offering six different
colour variants for light and mood effects in the car. Much like the sixth-generation BMW
7 Series, the All-New BMW 740Le xDrive also features the panoramic Sky Lounge glass

Moving towards the rear of the car is the presence of the BMW Touch Command control
unit located in the rear centre console – another segment changing innovation for the
luxury class. As the first removable 7-inch tablet that is connected to the vehicle systems,
passengers are able to access all comfort and entertainment functions.
While supreme audio assumes the form of the 16-Speaker 600w Harman Kardon
Surround Sound System, riding luxury takes the form of comfort seats built with electrical
adjustability for both the front and rear passengers, with lumbar support moulded for both
the driver and front passengers for elevated comfort. The rear seat passengers are also
offered the decadence of recuperation on a journey via massage functions with eight
massage programmes including the Vitality programme.

Command over the new plug-in hybrid luxury sedan can be achieved via the BMW
Connected app which allows one to not only monitor the performance of the car but also
dictate the interior atmosphere. Through the BMW Connected app, the driver can govern
interior comfort by controlling the auxiliary air conditioning function from a smartphone.
The BMW Connected app also empowers one to monitor charge levels of the high-
voltage battery, the locations of charging stations, and the distance covered on electric
power alone and the consequent amount of petrol saved.
The various status data for the vehicle and the operation of selected functions can also
be conducted with the BMW Display Key via its integrated Touch Display. Drivers can
check the fill level of the fuel tank, the current vehicle range and electric charge status,
the status of the central locking system, windows and glass roof, service prompts and the
time of day, as well as activate the air conditioning and ventilation system within the
vehicle.

Agility in the sedan’s performance is complemented by extraordinarily low emissions and

power consumption of the sedan is an impressive 13.9 kWh per 100 km.
The advanced chassis technology core to the BMW eDrive expertise is personified in
individually adjustable dynamics and comfort. As a BMW iPerformance variant, the
chassis of the All-New BMW 740Le xDrive includes two-axle air suspension with
automatic self-levelling and Dynamic Damper Control which allows minimal interruption to
ride comfort.
The priority of safety, meanwhile, takes the form of a wealth of on-board safety equipment
including front and side airbags, head/curtain airbags for the front and rear seats, a knee
airbag for the driver, ISOFIX child seat mountings in the rear, and the Active Protection
System – amongst other features.
Returning in the new luxury plug-in hybrid sedan is the BMW ConnectedDrive as well as
a suit of driver assistance systems including the latest BMW head-up display, Parking
Assistant as well as Driving Assistant Plus and Surround View systems.
Charging options with BMW 360° ELECTRIC.
With a gross energy capacity of 9.2 kWh, the high-voltage lithium-ion battery of the All-
New BMW 740Le xDrive can be recharged from any domestic power socket. Meanwhile,
full charge through the BMW i Wallbox Connect can be achieved in under five hours and
the charging process managed via either the BMW Remote app on a smartphone or the
graphic in the car’s instrument cluster.
As part of the BMW 360° ELECTRIC program, owners of the All-New BMW 740Le xDrive
