Special Volkswagen Beetle 60th Merdeka Edition launched at the Inaugural Volkswagen Fest 2017 (UPDATED with video)

In conjunction with the Volkswagen Fest 2017 (which is ongoing till this sunday, 13th of August) as well as the upcoming 60th Merdeka (Independence) Day celebrations here in Malaysia, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has introduced the limited edition Volkswagen Beetle 60th Merdeka Edition. This is one of two limited edition Volkswagen launched at the Fest, the other being the Volkswagen Jetta ALLSTAR.

The colour scheme of this special Volkswagen Beetle is similar to the Love Bug, Herbie, but it has the number '60' on it rather than '53' on its bonnet and its flanks. Only 16 units of this will be made, and they were all on display at the Volkswagen Fest 2017.

Aside from the nice Herbie-fied exterior which is pretty cool, the interior gets some additions worthy of its limited edition status. These include a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a 5.8" Touchscreen 'Composition Colour' infotainment system with USB, Bluetooth and 8 Speakers as well as seat trim covers in ‘Pepita’ fabric.

The 60th Merdeka Edition Beetle is the same Beetle 1.2 TSI when it comes to its powertrain.  It has the 1.2l turbocharged TSI engine with an output of 105PS/175Nm torque which powers its front wheels via a 7 speed DSG gearbox. It is pretty nippy around town and whilst the engine size may be small, it can cruise effortlessly at highway speeds.

This special Beetle is priced at RM136,888* (retail price and does not include registration and insurance). Do note that there only 16 exclusive units are available. The Merdeka Beetle is offered in two colours - Pure White and White Silver. The 60th Merdeka Edition Beetle will come with VPCM's five-year warranty, 60-months road tax, and a limited edition Beetle suitcase too!
