New High Spec Hyundai Tucson 2.0 MPi Premium 4WD is Now Available

There is a new Hyundai Tucson variant in town. Hyundai Sime Darby Motors have just introduced the Hyundai Tucson 2.0 MPi Premium 4WD variant which adds more premium bits and more extra equipment. This is the new top of the range Tucson here in Malaysia and it costs RM159,888 on the road but without insurance.

The thing about this new Tucson 2.0 MPi Premium 4WD is that it actually shares the same 2.0liter normally aspirated engine and transmission as the entry level 2.0 MPi Elegance. It isn't a turbocharged SUV like the two other more sporting models, the 1.6 Turbo GDi (petrol turbo) and the 2.0 CRDi (turbo diesel) variants so it is a surprising take on the top of the line premium model. What it has is All-Wheel Drive which the other three models do not have. This is most likely a cost to benefit ratio that the distributors have worked out.

Anyway, the Tucson 2.0 MPi Premium 4WD gets the 2.0liter MPi petrol powered engine which makes 155 ps and 192Nm torque. It gets that all-wheel drive system which runs through a 6 speed automatic transmission. This transmission and drivetrain setup allows for 100% of its drive to go to the front wheels during normal driving conditions and when needed, up to 40% of the power to the rear wheels in automatic mode. There is a 'Lock Mode' which is manually selected where you can split the drive 50:50 front and rear. Everything is equal for maximum traction of which the system also works with the Traction Control system which maximises grip during all situations.

So we now can get all-wheel drive in the Tucson but without a torquey turbo petrol or diesel. But Hyundai has given more kit - Twin LED Positioning Headlamps with Static Bending Light, dual zone fully automatic air-conditioning; a panoramic sunroof and a roof rack for loading flexibility. The panoramic sunroof is a big clue that this Tucson is the top of the range variant.

With the four variants of the Tucson now available, Hyundai Sime Darby Motors have a varied mix of the model on offer. Those that want a sporty SUV can opt for the petrol turbo and the turbodiesel. Now for those that want something with everything inside, they can get the full specced Premium edition. But now we could be hankering for a turbocharged all-wheel drive variant of the Tucson. Maybe Hyundai will bring it in soon.

All Tucson variants are entitled to 50,000km free service with three years validity. HSDM offers a five-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty on all its new passenger vehicles. A 24-hour road assist service is now available for new and existing Hyundai vehicles.

More details are in the Press Release below.

PRESS RELEASE
NEW 4WD TUCSON VARIANT WITH PREMIUM AND CONVENIENT FEATURES

SHAH ALAM, 17 November 2017 – Hyundai Sime Darby Motors introduces the new Premium
4WD Tucson variant, offering premium comfort levels and even more convenient features – making
your drive more enjoyable and fun.

The new 2.0 MPi Premium 4WD variant shares the same powertrain as the 2.0L MPi Elegance,
which is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0 MPi gasoline engine is capable
of a maximum 155ps at 6,200rpm and 192Nm at 4,000rpm. However, this new variant is mated
with a 4WD-system that delivers 100% of torque to the front wheels during normal road driving and
up to 40% to the rear wheels, automatically, depending on road conditions. A manually-selected
‘Lock Mode’ splits torque 50/50% to enhance stability for off-road and low speed. The Traction
Control that comes with the system, also efficiently transfers torque to the wheels while maximising
grip during cornering.

New premium convenient features that are offered in this variant include Twin LED Positioning
Headlamps with Static Bending Light, dual zone fully automatic air-conditioning; a panoramic
sunroof and a roof rack for loading flexibility. Besides, this variant is also fully equipped with six
airbags, 6:4 rear seat folding and reclining seat function (also applicable to the 1.6 Turbo GDi and
the R 2.0 CDRi variants).

“We hope to increase the market appetite for the Tucson by offering three powertrain options that
cater to the different preferences of car owners. With the introduction of these new variants, we
believe we have covered all aspects required of an SUV and we are confident SUV enthusiasts will
find the Tucson ideal in every way,” said Mr Lau Yit Mun, Managing Director of Hyundai-Sime
Darby Motors.

Euro NCAP safety rating. It benefits from a solid body structure featuring 51% of ultra-high strength
steel for improved torsional rigidity and impact resistance, and a host of innovative, passive and
active safety features. As with all Hyundai models, the Tucson also features a state-of- the-art
safety system that offers optimal driving stability. These include the Vehicle Stability Management
(VSM) system, Hillstart Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and the Electric
Parking Brake (EPB).

The Tucson has received numerous car awards, safety ratings awards, as well as the iF Design
Award which recognises the bold and distinctive design of the Tucson. The bold and athletic
presence is evident with the refined, flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and the brand’s
signature hexagonal grille. The front of the All-new Tucson is dominated by the hexagonal grille,
which connects to the LED headlamps to create a distinctive identity. The A-pillar positioning and
the directional shape of the wheel arches accentuate the car's dynamic appearance, even while on
standstill. Inside, high-quality materials are introduced across the cabin surfaces, creating a refined
cabin ambience. The new horizontal layout of the centre console reflects the car’s elegance while
increasing the feeling of roominess.

HSDM offers a five-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty on all its new passenger
