Perodua Teases Us With Details Of The All-New Myvi While Announcing That It Is Now Open For Booking - Disguised Car Will Be At Malaysia AutoShow 2017 For Public To Guess

Perodua has now opened its order books for bookings of the next generation Myvi, Malaysia's favourite compact hatchback. Priced from RM44,330 for the 1.3liter Manual variant to around RM55,300 for the 1.5 Advance Automatic (both without insurance), the car is something special for Perodua.

It is special because the upper body of this Myvi has been designed by Perodua themselves rather than something repackaged or rebadged. While they still take a current Daihatsu/Perodua/Toyota compact car platform and use an existing power/drivetrain, the exterior and interior design of the car is now by Perodua with over 99% of it being designed by the people at Perodua themselves.

There are some input by the Japanese, but only in terms of fine tuning the car itself. So this, is a huge step by Perodua whom we all know used to take a Daihatsu Boon/Sirion, change the bumper, grille and logo. This is actually more than before and now one cannot say that the company is just a company that rebadges cars. They've matured.

Of course you still won't get to see the whole car as yet. Perodua is only teasing bits of it here and there. It will also be seen at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2017 at MAEPS, Serdang but you won't get to see the car in full as they're going to put it in a box whilst keeping a lot of it hidden or camouflage it or display part of it or something like that. But from what we can see, in terms of styling, is that is looks longer than the previous one. Look at the outline with the new 'Myvi' logo (which is something different too, yes). You can tell that it isn't tall and square anymore.

It looks like the wheelbase is longer (yes it is if you look closely at the outline of the car photo above) and it looks like it is fitted with a lot of kit and safety equipment. Note that they've changed everything except keep the 1.3 & 1.5 DVVT-i engines, 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic. I suppose this is because Perodua want to keep things simple and keep costs low for the masses.

So with increased safety equipment and kit, they keep the same powertrain/drivetrain combination which I personally don't really mind for something that is usually someone's first car, or a family's town car or urban commuter. It doesn't really need extra legs, or gears for that matter. And that 4-AT is super reliable even if it is slightly ancient, I like that this new Myvi is still super affordable partly because of this.

As for its pricing, it is slightly more expensive compared to the outgoing one. But one must factor in the fact that Perodua is giving more kit for the car. It is only a few hundred Ringgit more even after factoring in insurance. One reason why Perodua did not quote prices with insurance is due to the insurance de-tariff system going on. Some may find it cheaper or some a little more (though my friends in the insurance industry say the swing in pricing still isn't crazy as yet with something like +5% or -5% over the average).

Let's just wait and see. Perodua will be officially unveiling and launching this car soon after this. We just need to wait a few more weeks, that's all.

The press release is down below, and was actually out on our Facebook page earlier today. As are these brochures here. So if you are on Facebook, do 'like' or 'follow' our account there for information that may come out first over there.
